Egypt comes to mid Wales

An artisan client with a penchant for Egyptian iconography has created a unique landscape ornament at his home in mid Wales.

Having purchased one of ORNAMENTI’s Landscape Obelisks, the client skilfully carved an Egyptian inscription into one side of the tapering natural limestone design.

The Egyptian hieroglyphic character on the pedestal base reads “akhet” which, loosely translated, means horizon. This is a reference to the position of the rising sun between the two hills to which this obelisk is aligned. The sunrise alignment is to the client’s birthday.

The photographs here show various stages during the installation of the obelisk in this private garden, right through to the completed translated project with gold leaf on the pyramidion at the very top of the obelisk.

ORNAMENTI garden ornament designs incorporated into this scheme include:

Large Florentine Planters featuring a palmette leaf design below the rim. This terracotta planter is part of a collection of designs incorporating similar motifs.

Tuscan Bowls whose large design is made by hand, despite their considerable size, using frost-resistant Galestro clay.

Milano Bowls with their classic egg-cup shape and distinctive colour derived from the cool grey Etrucan clay used to make the classic design.

And a variety of zinc planters.
